CBT: Tool, tips and Techniques
An introduction to using the CBT model when working to support young people with their mental health. It provides a grounding in CBT theory and a few practical activities that professionals can use in their practice. NB: This is an introductory training on some basic CBT-style techniques, rather than a training that licences people to deliver CBT therapy. Included in the training will be a section about the safe use of techniques and limits of competence. Click for more information.
Introduction to Adolescent Mental Health
This training aims to give an overview of OTR's understanding of adolescent mental health, and a grounding for other, more specialised, areas of training. It contains some activities about the variety of pressures and challenges that young people face, some information about common presentations of poor mental health and how to identify them, a way to theorise what influences an individual's mental health (the biopsychosocial model), and some introductory information about working with self-harm and suicide. Working Confidently with Gender and Sexuality
Gender and sexuality are two of the most powerful organising principles in our society and as such require exploring and understanding in an empowering and informative way. This training is developed by Freedom, OTR’s LGBTQ+ youth service. Freedom celebrated its 25th year of existence in 2020 and is the longest-running LGBTQ+ youth group in the UK. Running Resilience Lab (2 x full days 21st & 28th of March. 9.30-3.30pm)
An experiential training to give professionals the skills to facilitate a six session Resilience Lab. The training provides both guidance and resources around the Resilience Lab activities, and a grounding in resilience theory. It is for both professionals looking to run a Resilience Lab, and any professional that could make use of the activities or skills in their working practice with young people. This programme has been developed in conjunction with young people and is based on research around how we can build and promote resilience. It includes 5 sessions focused on different aspects of resilience and includes background knowledge, practical activities and self-help tools/skills that people can take away.
NORTH SOMERSET: Young Peoples' Rights and Participation
We will be exploring how to encourage young people's engagement and participation in well-being offers, through looking at OTR's ethos and the 4 Cs: choice, consent, confidentiality and complaints. We will explore how these principles can be applied in your work with young people, so as to empower young people to make their own choices with regards to their mental health.
NORTH SOMERSET: Understanding and Promoting Body Image
We will be exploring and gaining an understanding about what body image is, how it has been perceived throughout history and how the media and other factors have impacted how we feel about our bodies. Furthermore we will learn some tips and techniques to support in promoting positive body image to young people.
NORTH SOMERSET: Resilience in times of transition
By the end of the session the participants will be able to identify resilient traits in themselves and others, they will have a wider understanding of adolescent mental health within a social and political context and will have some tools to use when working with young people.
